A Former Production Assistant On Toddlers & Tiaras Talks About How Awful The Moms Were

The moms are actually about as calculated as the producers, trying their best to remain calm and collected during the home visits and hotel prep scenes. Because, as thatg1nger explained, these women wanted so badly to be congratulated for having the best and prettiest children, and to in turn be complimented as good mothers.

Craziest pageant mom would probably be (aside from what you see aired) is how much they talk about themselves and ask it to be included in the show. I know it’s not the answer you expect, but these moms are SO well behaved when the film crew arrives. They really do want to have some starring moment and recognition for how much money they spend, when they did pageants (if they did), etc.

There seemed to be a lot of lying going around: Mothers would talk about how they’d secretly taken out loans to pay for the pageants without their husbands knowing; one even seemed to think that she could get the camera crews into her house without her spouse being any the wiser. But by the same token, the men weren’t entirely honest with their wives:

The worst lie…probably that they loved their life and what they were doing. Especially the dads. Those poor things…most of them are just doing it to make their wives happy. They all seemed completely embarassed.

thatg1nger also worried about the kids, but it’s less about their well-being and more about their futures. “The kids are pretty spoiled, but I wouldn’t say messed up for good,” she wrote. “They’re going to be the ‘mean girls’ in middle school and high school.” She later added, “Who I really felt bad for though were all the middle schoolers in the future that were going to get bullied by those spoiled brats.”
