The “performance” by a hologram of Tupac Shakur at this year’s Coachella festival seems to have been met with a mostly positive reaction—or at least, people are willing to watch the video out of that can’t-look-away desire to see the rapper come back from the dead. Taking that as success, the music festival has made the bold move of releasing their 2013 poster a year ahead of time, because they already know exactly who’s going to be there: Dead musicians.
The “exclusively hologram” lineup has Michael Jackson headlining such legends as Johnny Cash, Aaliyah, and The Notorious B.I.G. (come on, you know he couldn’t resist after Tupac laid down the gauntlet this year). There will be a few living performers as well, like when TLC finally reunites with late singer Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
Obviously we’re kidding. This fake poster was illustrated by Andrew Strapp and first appeared on aux.tv. But it does indicate how absolutely creepy it would be if every single performer at Coachella weren’t actually there. Because then what do you have but a bunch of revelers staring at (for all intents and purposes) an empty stage? We don’t need music festivals of the future—the ones we have now are just fine.
Another joke that came from Tupac’s hologram performance is this Star Wars video:
Luke Skywalker’s face about sums up our feelings on the matter.
