Acting Is Basically A Hobby For Josh Hutcherson, Changing The World Is A Full Time Job

How did we get so lucky that Josh Hutcherson is just as awesome as his Hunger Games character Peeta Mellark? They totally could have cast a douchebag actor who got incredibly cocky after the movie premiered. But instead they cast Josh, possibly the sweetest actor alive. What did he do this time to get our hearts feeling all warm and fuzzy?

He did so much wonderful work in the LGBT community that he’s going to become the youngest recipient of the Vanguard Award this Saturday at the GLAAD Media Awards.

E! Online reports that losing his gay uncles from AIDS before he was even born inspired his family to always work hard for LGBT rights. He says, “My mom has always been a big advocate, especially in the gay, lesbian, transsexual and bisexual community so for me it’s always been a part of my soul.”

His mother taught him well because Josh went on to found the LGBT rights group  Straight But Not Narrow with his best friend — and it’s his work with this group that’s earned him the Vanguard award.

While we obviously would like to see a lot more of Josh on the big screen, he might be too busy changing the world to continue acting in the future. Sad face. But also a happy face, you know?

In that same E! Online story, he says:

“This is what my family is most proud of and the same for me. Acting is one thing, but actually trying to change the world and the way people think to make people’s lives better? That’s the stuff I’m most proud of.”

Did you just swoon reading that? That’s a Ryan Gosling type quote up in here. He’s actually trying to change the world. And not in a typical celebrity way where he donates a few thousand dollars and shows up at an event. His current work and activisism is already making a difference in people’s lives.

He recalls a letter that Straight But Not Narrow received from a 14-year-old high school freshman in Florida. “He was in this very right wing and religious sort of area and he sent a letter saying how SBNN changed his life and how he was able to feel more comfortable coming out to his friends,” Hutcherson says. “I was almost bawling reading it. That makes all our work worth it.”

Seriously, Jennifer Lawrence has no idea how lucky she is that she gets to make out with this guy for two more movies. He’s actually pretty amazing. Even if he doesn’t smell like fresh bread in real life.

I just wanted to point out that you left out the ‘Not’ in the title of Josh’s organization: Straight but Not Narrow.

Yes, he’s very wonderful and all but he still used a fake ID to buy whiskey.
