Here Is The Most Self-Aware Tweet About Dick Clark’s Death

Within an hour of TMZ announcing Dick Clark‘s passing, BuzzFeed already had a post filled with tweets asking “Who is Dick Clark?” (Damnit guys, we were planning one of our own!) But in our searches through Twitter, we came across this hilariously self-aware tweet from one @cafedarkness. Knowing that something monumental had happened but not caring enough to pull up Wikipedia, she asked…

"who is Dick Clark" tweet self-aware meta funny

She was probably serious about not recognizing the host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, but we have to applaud @cafedarkness for her meta commentary on Millennials who are so plugged in online and yet so out of touch with history. The hashtag #PutMeOnABuzzFeedList is especially funny: She figured she might as well get some mileage out of her lack of knowledge. (After several retweets and favorites, she followed up with, I’ll say I haven’t heard of all the things if that’s what it takes! #PutMeOnABuzzFeedList… making us think she did know who had died.)

That said, I don’t know if I could handle all of the kids becoming this self-aware of their ignorance when it comes to people and events that are more than ten years old. Maybe we should let them go on thinking that Wikipedia has always existed and that Titanic was just a movie.
