Last we heard, Dina Lohan was trying to sue Fox’s Glee for cracking a joke about daughter Lindsay Lohan‘s rehab stays in an episode last year. But in an interesting about-face, it looks like LiLo will actually appear on the show before the end of this season. TVLine reports that Lindsay is in final negotiations with Fox, and that she would play herself as a celebrity judge at Nationals.
I’m gonna stop you guys here. Talk about a missed opportunity! We know what Lindsay Lohan playing herself looks like: Her unfunny Saturday Night Live hosting gig from a few weeks ago. She had hardly any lines, and failed at poking fun at herself. It’s not that Glee‘s past self-referential celeb cameos have been bad. Josh Groban made us laugh playing a sketchy version of himself, and we got an Olivia Newton-John video out of her guest appearance. But to prop LiLo up as the celeb guest judge and give her one token line is to treat her with kid gloves. Glee needs to make her work for her comeback.
To that end, she should play a thinly veiled version of herself. It would get rid of any bad meta jokes, and it’s worked for guest stars like Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. Who knows, maybe Lindsay was actually uncomfortable poking fun at herself on SNL; it could be freeing for her to criticize failed starlet “Missy Mohan” without entirely having to own up to how she’s wrecked her life.
Well, Glee will do what it will. But the clear answer is, make Lindsay’s clusterfuck of a personal life into a Lifetime movie. And hire Aliana Lohan to play her.
