When a legend like Whitney Houston dies, it’s rarely uncomplicated. Conspiracy theories abound, whether her death was due to an airplane crash or a drug overdose. So it’s not too surprising that the LA County coroner’s office has been inundated with calls from people (some claiming to be relatives) demanding a murder investigation into her untimely demise (currently thought to have been accidental).
According to TMZ, the coroner’s office has been flooded with calls and emails claiming that Whitney Houston was murdered, but none have yet offered any supporting evidence. Perhaps one of them was Whitney’s former sister-in-law Leolah Brown, who told Access Hollywood “I believe Whitney’s death was not accidental” and admonished Bobbi Kristina that she was in danger. (Cool thing to do to a kid who just lost her mom.) So is there any truth to all this?
Answer: no. Whitney was a drug addict, her problems were well-documented, and she almost certainly died in the bathtub after taking an accidental overdose, like many, many, many people before her. But as with Michael Jackson, it’s so hard for fans to believe that their legend could do something so weak and human that they invent new reasons for their deaths. Murder! Conspiracy! Assassination! Government cover-ups! Even the most violent of deaths seems preferable to a peaceful overdose.
The coroner’s office says that toxicology reports should be in soon, which will probably provide conclusive enough evidence for some that Whitney’s death was accidental and at her own hand. Others will probably never be satisfied.
