You know this old joke right? Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow and Andy Samberg walk onto a movie set because they’re starring in a musical comedy film together called One Hit Wonders. No? Probably because this is breaking news on the Hollywood scene.
Last week the gals were out to dinner at the Soho  House with Glee creator, Ryan Murphy, when they decided they wanted to work on a fun project together. Mostly I’m guessing because Beyonce’s nanny for Blue Ivy cost a a lot of money and she needs the cash. Surrogates don’t pay for themselves (or do they? I’m unfamiliar with the black market secret surrogacy market).
Since Ryan Murphy loves musicals as much as he loves turning critically acclaimed TV shows into a mockery of themselves, he thought it would be a good idea to do a full-length musical comedy movie. MusCom for short. Since Gwyneth Paltrow has confused her Goop subscriber list with a record deal, she also thought this would be a good idea. Where Cameron Diaz comes into this, I’m not exactly positive.  Oh and Andy Samberg? Sure why not throw a goofy guy with a knack for putting his dick in a box into the mix.
The movie will hearken back to the dark day of ’90s girl groups when Spice Girls dominated the air waves and we thought B*Witched was the best thing to ever happen to Ireland’s music scene.
“Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz will play three singers who each scored a top hit song in the 1990s before watching their careers go down the drain. They decide to form a super group. Samberg and his Lonely Island cohorts will be involved in generating music for the film.”
While I kinda love the idea of this plot and the potential for 2gether-style  cheesy songs, I’m just not sure how well the the leads will play off each other. Just because Reese, Gwyneth and Cameron are all blonde, doesn’t mean they’re going to have automatic on-screen chemistry. But throw in Beyonce somewhere in the mix and I guess it could happen. Or it could be a total disaster. Just like the third season of Glee. (Burn)
We’ll have to wait out and find out.
