OK, now the Hunger Games merchandising craze is getting a little ridiculous. It makes sense that there are action figures of Katniss, Peeta, and Gale, but now word has it that Mattel will be rolling out a Katniss Everdeen Barbie this April. Entertainment Earth (via fansite HG Girl on Fire) alleges to have the inside scoop on the doll, with the option to pre-order the $28 toy. Here’s what we know:
With this Barbie Hunger Games Doll you can style Barbie just like Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games movie! Hunger Games, a movie starring Jennifer Lawrence, is adapted to film from the original young adult novel by writer Suzanne Collins. This doll’s outfit is made to replicate the very same one worn by the feature character in the movie, and it measures around 12-inches tall! Ages 6 and up.
Since it’s for ages six and up, it’s likely that Katniss will be without her signature bow and arrow. Furthermore, it’s unclear if Katniss’ outfit is her “girl on fire” dress from the pre-Games interviews or the uniform she wears in the Arena. You would think it’d be the former; that better matches up with the Barbie idea of dressing up your doll and posing her. It’s hard to imagine little kids reenacting the bloody combat of the Hunger Games in Barbie’s Malibu dream house.
Sure, there have been plenty of movie tie-in dolls before, like the High School Musical and Twilight editions. But there’s obviously a huge disparity between fans of that stuff and Hunger Games devotees. So, until we hear more specs, let’s hope that Mattel is selling pretty, Capitol Katniss; that’s the only way that a Hunger Games Barbie would make a ton of sense.
Sorry! This poll is now closed.
