Besides getting the opportunity to stare at Billy Crystal’s naturally aging face last night, one of the biggest highlights of the 2012 Oscars was the premiere of Ellen DeGeneres JCPenney commercials. While I’m usually not a fan of JCPenneys or their commercials, all the controversy and hype surrounding them this month made their debut much more exciting.
In case you’ve lost your copy of Homophobes Weekly while protesting condoms, I’ll give you a quick reminder rundown of everything that’s happened. JCPenney hired America’s most-loved syndicated talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to be their new spokesperson. While most of America smiled at the news and moved on with their lives, the group One Million Moms protested the decision because Ellen is gay. They insisted JCPenney fire Ellen and hire someone who isn’t trying to change the fabric of America with her blatant homosexuality.
JCPenney, middle America’s Bloomingdales, stood their ground and didn’t back down to One Million Moms. The normal-brained people of America got so excited by JCPenney doing the right thing that they pledged to actually start shopping there because they didn’t fire Ellen. It was all very heartwarming and Hallmark movie like, especially when Ellen addressed it humorously (of course) on her show.
The commercials, that One Million Moms claimed would destroy heterosexual marriages, aired last night and amazingly America’s families are still intact. Check them all out on the next page.
