Usually, it’s not too difficult to track down the Oscars opening musical numbers and movie montage, because it’s the best part of any year’s show (don’t deny it) and plenty of people have captured it. Sadly, that was not the case this year.
We’ve been trying to find Billy Crystal‘s opening on YouTube, but hardly anyone has posted it; the few low-quality videos have been yanked by the Oscars. But you know who did make it to YouTube? Justin Bieber.
The Biebs does Billy a solid by popping in during the Midnight in Paris bit. They’re not coy about his reason for being there, as he tells the aging host, “I’m getting you the 18-49 demographic.” And you have to admit that it’s funny how the two of them just sit there looking equally uncomfortable for the necessary few seconds for Tumblr and Twitter to go insane.
We already learned in last year’s 3-D masterpiece Never Say Never that Justin has a good sense of humor about playing himself and especially his devoted fan following. So kudos to him for doing the cameo and getting the Oscars some attention. It’s just a shame that no one cared enough to notice that Justin did only a few seconds of work, and Billy did the entire rest of the montage on his own.
