Gerard Butler Handled Rehab Like A Pro

Gerard Butler, the Kate Hudson of male RomCom actors, leaves rehab today after a three week stay at the Betty Ford Center. The TMZ exclusive explained that he went in for an addiction for prescription drugs and wanted to get the problem under control before it got out of control. And sources tell TMZ that he might have a little bitty cocaine problem too. But it’s Hollywood. Cocaine comes out of their faucets there. Literally their Brita filters are designed to collect the cocaine in tiny baggies. You can’t make this stuff up.

While a three week stay might be a little short for rehab, I’m impressed this is the first we’re hearing about it. Mostly when a celebrity decides to spring break at Betty Ford, it’s a huge production that involves PR statements, court orders, and tearful confessions to Mario Lopez on Extra. It’s almost like Gerard Butler actually entered rehab to get better and not to satisfy public concerns. It’s refreshing.

In fact, until today I didn’t even know Gerard Butler had any problems. Besides, of course, his unfortunate decision to star in The Ugly Truth with Katherine Heigl. He always came off like a celebrity who had his head on straight and could handle the pressures of being famous. Then again he has that accent which always throws me off. How am I supposed to differentiate between a Scottish accent and a prescription drug slur?

Even though he passed my drama-free rehab test with flying colors, the true testament to whether he handled rehab like a pro will come after he’s out. Will he turn to the cover of People to confess his sins? Will he schedule a sit down with Diane Sawyer to admit his weaknesses? Or will he just return to his life and go back to making mediocre movies?

Only time will tell.
