We know that you’ve already marked your calendars for April 29, the one-year anniversary of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s fairytale nuptials. And to help you in your celebration, Mattel presents special Royal Wedding Barbies, replicas of the happy duo.
Even though Franklin Mint released doll versions of Kate in both her engagement and wedding outfits shortly after the big day last year, we’re partial to the brand we grew up with. Personally, I’ve always been a fan of the little details and accessories they work into dolls, so I love how they recreated Kate’s Alexander McQueen gown and included her tiara and sapphire ring.
It is a little jarring that Mattel decided to reshape Ken’s face to match Will’s features — prominent nose and teeth, receding hairline — but “Kate” looks like any other Barbie. I guess you get that special treatment only if you were born a royal. The other bummer is that so far you can purchase these dolls only through amazon.co.uk ($155 for the set) on April 7th and not in the United States. You would think Mattel would have realized how obsessed we Americans were with our mother country’s Royal Wedding, but ah well. That’s what the internet is for.
