4. “Be My Lover” – La Bouche
If you wanna be my lover, wanna be my lover / Go ahead and take your time, boy you gotta feel secure / Before I make you mine, baby, you have to be sure / You wanna be my lover
What playlist would be complete without some Eurodance?
5. “Invisible” – Clay Aiken
If I was invisible, then I could just watch you in your room / If I was invincible, I’d make you mine tonight / If hearts were unbreakable, then I could just tell you where I stand /I would be the smartest man if I was invisible / Wait, I already am
After Clay Aiken (another American Idol alum) came out of the closet, any chance of taking this song seriously vanished. But it’s still a must-have on a fantasy-crush playlist, mostly because it unwittingly sounds like a stalker’s ode to the object of his affection.
6. “Crush” – Jennifer Paige
Here’s what I do, I play loose / Run like we have a date with destiny / It’s just a little crush (crush) / Not like I faint every time we touch / It’s just a little thing (crush) / Not like everything I do depends on you
Another enduring song from the ’90s, which enjoyed a brief revival a few years ago when Lea Michele sang it to Matthew Morrison on Glee. But of course Jennifer Paige‘s version is the best, with the breathy chorus and the reverse-psychology lyrics.
7. “Wannabe” – Spice Girls
If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends / Make it last forever, friendship never ends / If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give / Taking is too easy, but that’s the way it is
Many of these songs are just about getting your crush’s attention; the Spice Girls have standards, however, and will make you work to actually date any/all of them.
