Miss Piggy’s been named BAFTA’s official red carpet host. Typically when someone starts rubbing elbows with the men who have been featured on People’s Sexiest Men Alive list, I get suspicious. Sure talent can get a female into the right places at the right times, but can it also get a female talking to the right people? According to the conclusions of 80% of Internet commenters, the answer is no. So how then is Miss Piggy interviewing celebrities like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jean DuJardin and Michael Fassbender at the BAFTA Awards this Sunday?!
She starred in one movie last year and it was a family-friendly film. I highly doubt that one film can propel a Muppet from the nostalgia list to the A-list. In 2010 she was an ironic reference and this year she’s everywhere I look. She’s posing on red carpets, she’s firing accusations at Fox News, she’s judging Project Runway and she’s making cameos on SNL.
The last person to make this return to fame was Betty White. And I think we all know how she climbed back on top. (Reread that last sentence if you’re not sure what I’m implying.)
So if we can all agree that this transition is close to impossible, then we can also all draw the conclusion that Miss Piggy is sleeping her way up the Hollywood ladder. And all I have to say to that is good job. If that’s what it takes to get in the same room as Michael Fassbender, then that’s what it takes.
