In Super Bowls past, there’s been some big TV show sweeps episode for non-sports fans to look forward to after the game. But with the only premiere tonight being The Voice, hands-down the most anticipated entertainment related to the Super Bowl was the trailer for Marvel‘s superhero smorgasboard The Avengers.
Partway through the festivities, The Avengers trailer — the second full-length one we’ve seen so far — aired, and we’ve got it embedded here for you to rewatch over and over before the movie’s premiere on May 4. We’re still in the phase of getting to know the heroes: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Nick Fury. Not much has been released in the trailers about the movie’s villains, though in this TV spot we got a better idea of what the Avengers are facing.
“The world has changed,” Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) intones as we witness the Avengers take on the powers of Manhattan — especially Thor (Chris Hemsworth) conducting lightning from the Empire State Building — amidst fiery explosions. “We are hopelessly outgunned. It’s time. I still believe in heroes.”
Also, can we reflect on the fact that all Robert Downey, Jr. needs to do is say “Captain” and later close his eyes all dramatically, in order to seem like the biggest BAMF. I also really like the last, badass shot of each hero with his/her weapon of choice. Only a few months til May 4!
Update: Here’s the extended version—same gist, but with a better look at all of the heroes’ cool machinery/powers, and more Robert Downey, Jr. goodness. (It’s like they could read our thoughts!)
“I have an army.” “We have a Hulk.” Love it.
