I don’t watch TNT’s Leverage, so I know very little about the show except that it’s about heists and it stars a bunch of “oh that guy/that girl!” actors from shows like Coupling and Angel. But any action series that can parody an award-winning comedy has to come from good stuff.
An ONTD user spotted this promo for “The Office Job,” airing this coming Sunday. It’s clear that Leverage is skewering The Office with tongue firmly in cheek, as evidenced by the official synopsis from TNT:
Uncovering a simple embezzlement scam becomes anything but simple when the team becomes part of a documentary shooting at the company they’re trying to save.
Indeed, the twenty-second promo has stars Christian Kane and Gina Bellman dressed like employees of Dunder Mifflin, snarking on their “coworkers” in the confessional.
The episode’s writers, Jeremy Bernstein and Josh Schaer, don’t have too much comedy experience between them: Josh at least has written for Human Target, while Jeremy worked on Stephen King’s Dead Zone. But the promo is promising, and with The Office itself pretty tired plotwise, we’re excited to see Leverage recycle or repurpose what made that sitcom funny in the first place.
