This is a toss-up: Either you have no idea who 2gether is, or you’re already singing their hits “U + Me = Us (Calculus)” and “The Hardest Part of Breaking Up (Is Getting Back Your Stuff)” at the top of your lungs. So for the former camp, here’s a primer: 2gether was a fictional boy band from 1999-2001 whose personalities, songs, and TV show were all meant to be a satire of groups like the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC.
For the record, I just learned that these guys were fake while writing this article. I always thought they were just extremely silly. (Although if your members include Kevin Farley, younger brother of late comedian Chris Farley, then that should be a good tip-off.) But that’s what makes the idea of a 2gether reunion even funnier. ONTD spotted a Facebook post from “The Bad Boy,” Alex Solowitz:
alright peeps, i’m going to need everybody’s help far and wide . if you guys want this show to happen its going to take a mass group effort break out you old 2gether albums get your friends to post friend request as well as posts on are walls everybody is in, band wise except evan but its just because he’s out of town. i’ve had my long time friend billy berman put together
[no pun} a band but we need to know how big this thing is going to be so we can book a proper venue. all of you are so amazing and the support is redic. TELL EVERYONE!!!! we're back.!!!!!!!
This came after a lunch with Kevin; originally I was going to say that these guys really hadn't aged well, but now that I know it's all a joke it's not as relevant.
The original poster on ONTD suggested that if the guys are serious, they organize a one-night concert benefiting the Michael Cuccione Foundation—named for their former bandmate, who lost his battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2001 at the age of only 16.
A 2gether reunion would be incredible. I think that if you go through YouTube -- especially our older readers -- you'll realize that you've heard several of the faux-band's songs. But I'll leave you with my absolute favorite:
