Poor Sarah Hyland. She should’ve been enjoying this weekend with the Emmys, but first she had to deal with a crop of way-sensitive Lea Michele fans who like to throw out insults over Twitter.
The Modern Family star was a guest on E!’s Fashion Police on Friday, where she poked fun at Lea for her red carpet posing style. And in Sarah’s defense, Lea does seem to take the whole thing way too seriously.
But over the weekend, the Glee star’s fans ragged on Sarah over Twitter, accusing her of being jealous. They called her mean and pathetic and basically tried to make her feel shitty over what was always meant as a joke. But Sarah took it all in stride, tweeting a message that defended her mimicking Lea but wasn’t an apology:
People have they’re opinions. People also think I don’t know Lea. But I met her 6 years ago n NYC when I was 15 yrs old. I did not intend for my comments to be taken in a malicious way. But I did hate the dress. Called her ass great. Did u all hear that one?
In no way am I jealous of Lea Michelle. I’m happy with my own life and am not jealous of anyone elses n the world. Congrats Lea. U know how to work the red carpet. I can’t take it as seriously as you. That’s all I wanted to show on FP. It’s strange to me. I can’t take myself that seriously. I don’t like the red carpet. I feel silly. So props to her for knowing what she’s doing and enjoying it.
But I won’t apologize. I’m an outspoken person. I own what I said about that outfit. And I mimicked what I saw with my own two eyes. Not sorry about that. Sry that All of you immediately jump to the conclusion that I’m a jealous bitch cuz that’s what u all crave. A villian. Everyones saying How can I say that without even knowing her. But do any of you know her? Have any of u known her for 6 years?
Look, Fashion Police is a catty show, but Sarah didn’t say anything nasty and unfounded like the other panelists. (Um, JoanRivers much?) She called it like she saw it, which happened to be ridiculous.
Note that Lea hasn’t responded yet, and doesn’t seem bothered to. So maybe it’s time for the fans to stop being so childish.
