Two new sister-themed shows are coming our way this season — Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar will air on The CW, and ABC Family is giving us The Lying Game based on a series of books by Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard. And from the clips I’ve seen of these two shows, they seem to have pretty much the exact same premise.
The Lying Game is a about a girl named Emma who learns she has an identical twin sister off living the high life with her wealthy adoptive family. This sister, Sutton (both characters are played by Alexandra Chando), asks Emma to take her place for a few days while she attempts to track down their birth mother. Sutton goes missing and Emma has to decide whether to come clean about the identity switch.
Ringer is about a recovering addict named Bridget who moves in with her sister Siobhan (both played by Sarah Michelle), a woman off living the high life with her wealthy husband. Soon, Siobhan goes missing and and Bridget takes her place and. When things start to go awry, Bridget must decide whether to come clean about the identity switch.
Same exact show, right? I mean, this Prince and the Pauper tale isn’t exactly the most novel premise, but the two have enough similarities that it seems there’s only room for one in our tiny, TV-watching brains. In that case, I guess I’ll go with Ringer, but mostly just because of my undying devotion to Buffy.
