Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga’s ‘Regis and Kelly’ Appearance Proves That Things Are Still Awkward

Watching The Real Housewives of New York and New Jersey this year marks the first TV season that I’ve become really invested in a reality show. That’s why I was especially excited to watch Live with Regis and Kelly this morning, since the guests would be Caroline Manzo, Teresa Giudice, and Melissa Gorga. I usually didn’t care if reality stars did interviews while the show was running, but considering the big fights between Melissa and Teresa this season, I couldn’t resist seeing if they’ve buried the hatchet since they wrapped filming.

Even though Kelly tried to moderate things since she was the bigger fan of RHONJ, Regis jumped in and cut to the chase. “Do you get along with your sister-in-law?” he asked Teresa. It was Melissa who answered first: “We try.” Teresa’s response was even more frustratingly vague: “We’re family.”

He kept pushing, calling out Teresa for staring straight ahead while Melissa spoke, with her hands clenched in her laps. “Don’t you think Regis picks up on this?” he joked, but it was clear that he was getting agitated by what we’ve seen in the last few episodes. “The show has been great for all of you,” he said. “It made you more prominent, it gave you great jewelry.”

Much as this season has made her the victim, Teresa is still making the conflict all about her. When Regis scolded her and Melissa for their antics, saying, “You’re giving them [the producers/audience] what they want; it’s to the disadvantage of your parents,” Teresa quickly inserted, “My parents.”

Part of Teresa’s beef comes with the circumstances that brought Melissa and Joe Gorga on RHONJ. She’s pissed that she had to find out from Bravo that the Gorgas and her cousin Kathy Wakile would be appearing on season 3, but Melissa says that Bravo confirmed the casting with Teresa before they told her that she’d passed muster. But Teresa’s really annoyed because she didn’t even know that Melissa was going through the interview process.

“You should be happy for your sister-in-law,” Regis said.

“Yeah, to air our family laundry out there!” Teresa responded.

Regis waved away her and Melissa’s protests by pointing out that there’s no mystery as to why the producers decided to add the Gorgas to this season’s line-up: ”Everybody knows what they want from you,” he said in a Yoda-like moment of wisdom.
