Along with Danny Pino, Kelli Giddish has been selected as one of the new stars of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. While Det. Olivia Benson (aka Mariska Hargitay) isn’t going away completely, she has asked for a smaller role this season and her character will get a promotion. That leaves room for new addition Kelli to create a place for herself on the show. So who is Kelli, and what do you need to know about her?
She got her start on a soap.
Kelli spent two years playing Di Henry on All My Children. Her character is probably not coming back because the soap has been cancelled and will air its final episode this fall. (Sniff.)
She previously had bad luck with TV series.
Kelli’s previous series included Past Life, which was about reincarnation, and Chase, which was a police procedural. Neither lasted a full season, but at least she has previous experience playing a cop – that lingo can be hard to master.
She has already been on L&O.
Law & Order loves to hire actors who have already shown up once on the show – before being hired to play Lenny Briscoe, Jerry Orbach had a guest spot as a defense attorney, for example. Kelli once appeared on an episode of Criminal Intent, playing some person named Dana. I haven’t seen that episode, surprisingly. She was also in an episode of SVU back in 2007. It’ll be fun seeing that one in syndication now.
She has dated some hot dudes.
In the past, Kelli has been linked with former All My Children costars Aiden Turner (Aidan) and Michael E. Knight (Tad the Cad). She also used to go out with Jesse Metcalfe.
She was on this webseries I’m sort of obsessed with.
I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and there was this web series The Burg a couple of years ago that made fun of the neighborhood and some of the stereotypes. And Kelli Giddish was in it, you guys! That’s really all I wanted to say about that. I am pretty sure I was in the background of some of the episodes because they filmed at this bar I used to really like. If you need me I’ll be over there in the corner feeling really old.
