As Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara is about to blow up. And if you weren’t already jealous of her, she’s staying warm during filming in Sweden by snuggling with her boyfriend, Charlie McDowell. So who is he, and what do you need to know about him?
He has a famous pedigree.
Charlie’s parents are actors Malcolm McDowell (yep, the guy from A Clockwork Orange) and Mary Steenburgen. They got divorced when he was a kid. He grew up in Los Angeles around other children of famous folks.
He has dated other famous chicks.
Before meeting Rooney, Charlie dated actresses Kristin Chenoweth and Haylie Duff.
He dabbled in acting.
Although Charlie did a little bit of acting (including a guest spot on his stepdad Ted Danson‘s show Becker), Charlie has mostly stayed behind the cameras. He was a production assistant on Curb Your Enthusiasm and now owns his own production company, Cloudbreak Productions (whose website hasn’t been updated since 2004, so they might want to work on that). He also studied directing at the American Film Institute.
He’s a blogger.
Charlie’s website, Dear Girls Above Me, is a series of rants related to the chicks who live above his apartment in L.A, whom he has nicknamed Cathy and Claire. The posts make fun of stuff he overhears them talking about. Sample: ” ‘Aunt Kara, can I sue a guy cause I threw out my neck giving him a blow job?’ Better question: What does Aunt Kara do for a living?” In a vlog, Charlie presented the Girls Above Him a pillow embroidered with Haylie Duff’s face. Well, that’s one way to get rid of a reminder of your ex.
He got a TV deal.
Charlie sold the rights to Dear Girls Above Me to CBS, who is producing a sitcom based on the blog. Charlie won’t be playing himself, though.
