We know from Wendi McLendon-Covey that she based a lot of her comedic timing in Bridesmaids on the idea that women are funny when they’re trying not to do something — but what about co-star Melissa McCarthy? On last night’s Conan, the actress revealed that a certain celebrity chef was the inspiration for her hilariously crude, sexually aggressive, puppy-stealing character Megan.
“Really, when I first read it, the first person I thought of was Guy Fieri from the Food Network… the shirt, the Kangol [cap]. Every scene, I would have my glasses on the back of my head. I tried for a long time to convince them to let me wear short, white, spiky hair, and they were like, ‘You can’t actually be Guy Fieri!’”
McCarthy had a great sense of humor about her character, teasing Conan when he called Megan “genderless” and admitting that she looked like “a weevil” compared to Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig, and the other ladies. Check out the whole interview below; the Bridesmaids bit comes at 4:15.
