This is a video of Willow Smith behind-the-scenes at the Kids’ Choice Awards. Watching it I can’t help but think of home videos of myself at the age of 10. I had a budding rap career back then myself, you see, and there’s video of me spitting such classics as “A Doubly Dose of Cool TV.” Granted, Willow has songwriters and producers and stylists — whereas I couldn’t be bothered to run a comb through my hair — but videos like this one seem like something she’s going to be embarrassed about in a couple of years.
Here’s the scene: 15-year-old Willow’s new to high school. She’s fiddling with her locker combination (damn thing always gets stuck — why are still using books, it’s 2016), when a group of hormone-riddled guys run by yelling, “Whip your haaaaair!”
And then Willow’s all like, “Damn, I will never live this crap down.” And the cute foreign exchange student who seems like he might be Willow’s only chance at a normal relationship? Well all he has to do is type her name into YouTube and she’s back to square one, forever doomed to be known as the girl who wore weird shoulder pads and danced to terrible music.
