The latest Hunger Games casting rumors claim that fantastic character actor Stanley Tucci, musician Lenny Kravitz, and Woody Harrelson are all on the short list for a handful of roles in the Lionsgate movie. Sources differ on how the parts will be distributed, but what I’ve heard is that they might play (respectively) President Snow, Cinna, and Seneca Crane.
Kravitz is the one out of the three who seems like strange casting. On the one hand, he’s definitely trying to pump up his acting career — he was last seen in 2009′s Precious as a sweet nurse — but the character of Katniss’ stylist Cinna is described as simply dressed and not surgically altered like the rest of the Capitol residents. Kravitz, with his piercings, tattoos, and crazy hair, may just be a little too left-of-center.
Seneca Crane is a character that we don’t see much of, though if Harrelson took the role I’m sure they’d beef up the part in the movie. As the Head Gamemaker, he’s responsible for the horrific obstacles that the Capitol uses to pick off tributes in the arena on a slow day, or force them closer together so they’ll kill each other faster. Though Harrelson usually plays it more wacky (think Zombieland and the upcoming Friends with Benefits), I bet he could bring in that necessary lack of emotion to play a Gamemaker.
As for Tucci? That man can do no wrong, as evidenced by his fantastic roles in The Devil Wears Prada, The Lovely Bones, and Easy A. Can we imagine him as the menacing President Snow, who wears a genetically altered pungent rose on his lapel, has surgically puffed-up lips, and whose breath smells like blood? Yes.
Lionsgate hasn’t yet confirmed these castings, but we’ll keep you updated when we hear what roles (if any) these men will have in The Hunger Games.
