Get Up to Speed on the ‘Fast and the Furious’ Series in Time for ‘Fast Five’

Fast & Furious (2009)

The job: Reinstated FBI agent Brian and Dom both join a team trafficking heroin between the United States-Mexico border… in order to avenge a certain someone’s death (see below).

The bad guy: Drug lord Arturo Braga.

Memorable chase scene: Dom and Brian race through underground tunnels back to the U.S. Also, Dom survives an explosion.

Love interests: Brian and Mia reunite.

Deaths: Letty gets murdered by one of Braga’s men, after almost dying in a car accident.

Fast Five (2011)

The job: Steal over $100 million scattered through different drug lords in Rio de Janeiro.

The bad guy: Hernan Reyes, a corrupt Brazilian businessman who owns the city and that nice pile of cash.

Memorable chase scene: The film’s climax.

Love interests: Rookie cop Elena (Elsa Pataky) questions which side to take, and catches one character’s eye.

Deaths: Can’t tell you!

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

The job: This spin-off revolves more around a race, as American ex-pat Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) must pay off a debt after destroying a car in a street race. He ultimately challenges Tokyo’s reigning “Drift King” to a race, with the terms being that whoever wins, gets to stay in Tokyo, while the other must leave.

The bad guy: Takashi, or DK, the Drift King and nephew to a Yakuza boss.

Memorable chase scene: The big race through a canyon, with Sean’s car cobbled together from spare parts.

Love interests: Sean and DK’s rivalry, though mostly centered around cars, also has to do with the fact that Sean is dating DK’s girl Neela.

Deaths: Sean’s friend Han, which brings in a cameo from Dom.

Fast Five will be in theaters this Friday.
