In a piece that we’re convinced is just pandering to Green Lantern fans, Blake Lively reveals how she was given the chance to keep her lovely blond locks while playing Carol Ferris, but she “insisted” on dying her hair brown. What a trooper!
Lively told Showbiz Spy,
“There was some debate as to whether my character could be blonde but I was like, ‘Absolutely not. Carol Ferris is a brunette in the comic books and so I must be a brunette.’ Green Lantern is one of the longest running comic books of all time and I was very aware of that. Even on set I could feel all the fans watching me expectantly so there was a lot of pressure to get it right.”
Lively was never a very intuitive choice for the part, so this just seems like damage control before the movie hits theaters June 17. To be fair, she did appear at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con and seemed very enthusiastic about the role. But her inclusion in the movie is still quite a headscratcher, especially since we were able to dig up the original casting call:
[CAROL FERRIS] 26-32, a smart and attractive woman with an MBA. She started as a pilot and now runs Ferris Aircraft. She is a work-a-holic…FEMALE LEAD
Lively is 23 and has made her career playing carefree girls with dark secrets, not women burdened by their own insecurities and need for success. But strangely, she beat out Jennifer Garner, Eva Green, Keri Russell, and Diane Kruger for the role. These four women just seem to inhabit a character tier decidedly different from Lively’s; in my opinion, Green would’ve been perfect for the role.
