Slade has appeared on the Real Housewives of Orange County since the franchise's inception in 2006. He first appeared as the husband of a Real Housewife, Jo De La Rosa, and has since "bagged" two more housewives, Lauri Waring Peterson and Gretchen Rossi, to whom he is now engaged. Slade is a controversial character on the show; many of the women don't like him. In 2009, Slade was arrested at Gretchen's house for unpaid child support. The authorities were notified by Slade's son's mother. (This same son, Grayson, suffers from a rare form of brain cancer, and Grayson's mother alleges that Slade owes her money for years of medical bills piling up as a result of their son's condition.) Slade released the following statement: "This is an unfortunate situation that has occurred. My son is very ill and we have been working on resolving the issue of support vs. his enormous medical bills with the appropriate agencies for several months now. It is sad that individuals would take advantage of the situation in an attempt to defame and discredit me in such a public manner. For those who know me, there is nothing more important than my children."

We were introduced to Matt Keough, former Real Housewife Jeana Keough's husband, in the first season of Real Housewives of Orange County. The former baseball player suffered from many injuries and battled alcoholism. He did not appear to communicate well at all, or to spend quality time, with his family, and often barked at Jeana and the children. Although they eventually filed for divorce, Matt continued to live with Jeana, which Jeana attributed to his alcoholism. Matt has been arrested a few times. In 2005, he was arrested for a felony DUI when he failed to stop at a red light and hit a person walking his bike across the street. Matt fled the scene, but was later found and arrested. He spent six months in rehab, then pleaded guilty and spent three months in jail. He was released on the condition that he would not drink alcohol. However, he violated his probation when his parole officer caught him drinking at home, and spend seven weeks in jail. Less than a week after his release, he was caught drinking again, and spent 180 more days in jail. Matt was arrested in 2009 for a DUI, when he rolled through a stop sign and then attempted to run from cops. He was charged with two felonies for the incident.
Joe Giudice, husband of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice, was convicted of a DUI when he flipped his car in the early morning after a night out. Joe, however, told a different story on an episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey. He said that he dozed off, flipped his car, went to a friend's house after, took a few shots, then called the police. He was let out of jail on a suspended license, but was caught driving after. Joe then turned himself into jail to spend a 10-day sentence for driving with a suspended license. Joe also faced legal trouble after filing for bankruptcy earlier.
When Real Housewife Tamra Barney and her husband Simon Barney joined the Real Housewives of Orange County cast, they seemed to be a pretty together couple. Over the next few seasons, however, they grew more and more tense and bitter, eventually leading them towards an angry divorce. During the divorce, Tamra called the police on Simon after alleging that he threw a dog leash at her and hit her wrist. He was arrested on domestic violence charges.
Apollo Nida is the husband of the one of the newest Real Housewives of Atlanta stars, Phaedra Parks. Phaedra is a successful entertainment lawyer and many were shocked to find out that she was married to an ex-convict and carrying his child.
Apollo had been convicted of racketeering in 2004. He served almost five years in jail until he was paroled. Reports have come out that allege that Apollo served close to 5 months in the late 90s for theft by receiving stolen goods. Of his status as an ex-convict, Phaedra said, "He's no different than Martha Stewart, and people just need to get over it."
