Get Ready For Alex Pettyfer In ‘The Moral Instruments.’ And Everywhere Else.

The people have spoken. 20-year old British model and actor Alex Pettyfer has just been cast in in the Screen Gems adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. What does that mean for those of you uninitiated in the world of paranormal romance blockbusters? That you should get to know his name – and chest – because you’ll be seeing a lot of them both soon.

Alex will soon be on the big screen starring in I Am Number Four, the first screen adaptation to come out of James Frey’s fiction factory. And The Mortal Instruments series stands to the next big fantasy franchise in theaters.

City of Bones, the first book in the series, was an immediate best seller. Here’s Vulture‘s explanation as to why:

“The books are basically Twilight with demons instead of vampires. Headstrong teen girl as main character? Check! Hot-guy love interest kept at bay by a Terrible Secret? Check! Best guy friend secretly pining in the wings? Check!”

Alex will be playing Shadowhunter Jace Wayland, the love interest of the story’s heroine Cary, who has already been cast as Lily Collins. Author Clare has said she’d be happy with this choice, and MTV even made a plea for Alex to play the role last month:

Can we, but for a moment (or maybe longer!), take a look at this side-by-side of the “City of Bones” cover and a still of Alex shirtless from the movie “Beastly”? Um, anyone else think Alex must have posed for the cover illustrator? They’re twinsies!

Given that explanation, it sounds like producers were happy to do just that. And we’ll be following suit for a long time to come.
