Movies and product placement have always shared a strained relationship. There have been those meta-moments (like in Wayne’s World, where Mike Meyers gives that whole speech about not selling out while drinking Pepsi and eating chips), as well as their less self-aware, but no more subtle counter-parts (Michael Bay makes more on product placement) than he does actually making his films at this point).
