In America, we customarily fill these spaces with live men in Santa Claus suits so as to extract as much money from beleaguered parents as possible. But in this Catalonian shopping center in Spain, they take a different approach.
According to Buzzfeed, this is a Cagnar statue. The Caganar figure is often found in nativity scenes and represents fertilizing of the earth. But I’d like to think of him as a literal embodiment of what it’s like to be in a mall at Christmas time.
