Portia De Rossi‘s new memoir Unbearable Lightness depicts her long struggle with anorexia, and one quote struck us this morning, since we’ve been writing about the subject of eating disorders and Black Swan lately. Namely, the fact that she thought she was being healthy when she dipped into anorexia.
According to JustJared, Portia writes:
“I didn’t decide to become anorexic. It snuck up on me disguised as a healthy diet, a professional attitude. Being as thin as possible was a way to make the job of being an actress easier…”
We have a feeling this happens to a lot of girls and women. That’s definitely the line that gets crossed in Black Swan, where Natalie Portman‘s character Nina takes discipline and an intense work ethic to a very unhealthy place. What do you think: does anorexia disguise itself as healthy living sometimes?
