At the very end of Fashion Week, Liana and I attended an event where the shwag bag at the end of the night included Pop Chips, Vitamin Water, and….a gift certificate to get “laser hair removal surgery” valued at $295. Uh?
Now, I don’t think the event planners were trying to tell us that we need to wax our upper lips more. But there was something a little bit off-putting about this free “gift.” It’s like giving you a bag of free Botox, or offering a 30 percent discount off a tummy tuck. Or maybe I’m looking at it wrong: Is it any worse than offering a month free gym membership in a giveaway?
I called up the medical spa (Sleek) and scheduled an appointment for a consultation about the hair removal, but backed out at the last second. It just made me feel too icky to think that I’d be getting something permanently removed from my body because some PR intern stuffed 500 of these pieces of paper in bags during fashion week. Then again, if the certificate was for free tattoo at the studio of my choice, I’d definitely take them up on the offer.
So what do you think: Free (light) cosmetic surgery in a gift bag…would you be grateful or grossed out?
Sorry! This poll is now closed.
