John Mayer’s Metaphoric Retirement

Is John Mayer retiring? Or just taking a cue from Joaquin Phoenix? John posted this photo to his blog, with the caption: “A Self Portrait of The Artist Three Days Before His Metaphoric Retirement.” So what’s the deal? Does Mayer plan on taking up acting?

John’s Tumblr is a font of insight into the mind of the artist. He also recently wrote on his Tumblr:

“I had 3.3 million Twitter followers back in March April when I announced that I’d be predominantly posting on Tumblr, a site that takes all of 25 seconds to sign up for. Five months later I have just passed 50,000 followers, a fraction of my Twitter base… I will leave the opining up to you, but I think I made the right move. I now have an even larger Tumblr addiction but it’s sort of like a book addiction, or a gambling addiction where you always walk away with the casino’s money… it’s one of those things you do all the time but isn’t all that bad for you. Well, except for those two “artful” nudie Tumblr sites I follow… they slow my productivity down a bit…”

So not funny. I wish this mediawhore would retire for real.

Ew. So from this we can gather he has not changed one iota – still completely self-centered and, even more inticing, still spending all of his time online looking at porn. He reminds me of Chris Brown -whining about no one liking him and STILL not understanding WHY. Fingers crossed his “metamorphic retirement” is truly a retirement.

        oops…make that “enticing”.

Media whore or not, John Mayer is a shining beacon of hope to the music industry. He’s talented, and he’s brilliant. His style of humor isn’t really suited for his fame, though. Some humor doesn’t sound like humor when it’s written down and read. Unfortunately, few people actually hear him say the things he says in person, so they can’t read the sarcasm behind it.

It’s unfortunate, really. He’s a damn good guitarist, songwriter, and singer. If he retires, it would be a shame.
