Okay, I’m sorry…were there some people out there who were surprised to find out that Lady Gaga – the young woman who dresses herself like a sparkly Matthew Barney picture every day – turned out to like herself some recreational drug use? Sure, she probably doesn’t have to be so blatant about it, but then how would she turn into her idol, Madonna?
After telling Vanity Fair that she “occasionally” dabbles in cocaine, Gaga went a weird PR route: Instead of apologizing or trying to backtrack, the Bad Romance singer is going to explain her fondness for nose candy in more interviews. Like in Q Magazine:
“[Using drugs] I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired,” she said. “Some people find inspiration in dark places. I guess I’m one of them. What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn’t just doing drugs.”
“Once you open those doors they’re open for ever,” she said in the Q interview. “People who say they need [drugs] to be creative are full of s**t. I’m not some chick on the road getting high and f***ed up every night. I wake up, drink coffee and get on the phone to talk about the creative direction of the next video.”
It’s like the great Hunter S. Thompson once said, “I don’t advocate drugs and dressing up like a drag queen, but they worked for me.”
