‘Degrassi’ Star Jordan Todosey On Playing A Transgendered Teen

Jordan Todosey has made her debut as transgendered teen Adam on Degrassi: The Next Generation; as Adam, she portrays a girl living as a boy in the harsh hallways of Degrassi Community School, where some scenes are tough to watch as Adam (real name: Gracie) gets harassed by classmates. Impressively, this wildly popular Canadian TV show has never sunk to sugarcoating the grim realities of youth; rather than talking down to its target audience, Degrassi speaks directly to them. And by introducing a transgendered character on the show, Degrassi’s unvarnished message of tolerance will sink in much faster that way.

For more on Jordan herself (btw: she has to tape her boobs down and lower her voice, among other tricks), check out this interview with Canadian Gay and Lesbian News (via Lemondrop):

Uh, yeah, FtM here…Adam isn’t ‘a girl living as a boy’ – he’s a boy born in a girl’s body. Watch the show, then write.
