Casting ‘Babysitters Club: The Movie’

Kids’ book-turned-movie Beezus & Ramona opened this past weekend to less-than-stellar box office results, coming in a dismal sixth place. Even The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, starring Nic Cage’s cheapest toupee, did better.

It got us thinking about another iconic book series from our childhood we think would be a huge hit on the big screen. That’s right, The Babysitter’s Club. Yes, OK, it’s been made into a TV movie or two, but let’s be honest – those don’t really count.

**A note on our picks: Reading BSC at 8 years old, the characters seemed, like, sooo grown-up. As such, our picks skew older than the middle school demographic. But hey, this is Hollywood – you can be a teen well into your twenties!

After the jump, our dream cast for the flick…

I say Sue (from The Middle) has a role somewhere, she is total geek which is always how I envisioned Mallory. Girl above is too good looking!

The Baby-Sitters Club (1995) was a hit on the big screen (not a TV movie) and starred such names as Rachel Leigh Cook, Larisa Oleynik, and even Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn.

The Baby Sitters Club was actually made into a feature length film in 1995 and was distributed in theaters. Rachel Leigh Cook and Larisa Oleynik were in it:

I’m not sure if BSC appeals to the Gossip Girl generation but, I’d go see it.

      this cast is terribly inaccurate.
emma watson is the exact opposite of tomboy kristy.
taylor momsen is the exact opposite of hippie/organic dawn.
mia wasikowska is anything but the ditsy shopaholic-type that stacey is.
sarah hyland looks nothing like mallory.
and you completely left jessi off the list.
