An AP Impersonator Is On The Loose, Writing Smack About David Archuleta

Someone out there has been impersonating The Associated Press in order to spread wild gossip about American Idol alum David Archuleta. Filled with spelling errors and vague anonymous sourcing — both AP no-nos — the lengthy article was released Monday on the website Free Press Release. It cites “dozens of tips” from supposed witnesses who allege that the young singer is gay and had a relationship with another man.

“The person behind the ‘Free Press Release’ is clearly not an employee of AP, which did not post it, either,” a spokesman for the global news organization tells Crushable. “We’re looking into the matter.”

The article has an AP dateline of Boston along with a logo and this disclaimer: “ALL RIGHTS TO REPRINT OR TO USE ANY AND ALL INFORMATION WITHIN THIS PRESS RELEASE IS HEREBY GRANTED BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS. PLEASE CREDIT THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FOR ANY AND ALL INFORMATION USED IN PART OR IN FULL FOR YOUR REPRINTED ARTICLES. COPYRIGHTS TO THIS ARTICLE ARE HEREBY RELEASED AND GRANTED TO ANY AND ALL NEWS MEDIA OUTLETS IN PART OR FULL.”

Reality Blurred first reported the case of the AP impersonator. Representatives for David did not immediate respond when asked for comment.
