Josh Charles is the most underrated dude in diary history. Beloved by rabid female fans everywhere, Josh was known for years for his role as Knox Overstreet in Dead Poets Society. That role was in 1989, and he was just a kid playing lovestruck a prep school teen in the inspirational teacher drama; we swooned when Knox stalked Chris — a pretty cheerleader he barely knew who went to the public school nearby — and blurted out, “I love you!!!” Carpie diem, indeed.
Despite an off-center leading man appeal, Josh never achieved the Tom Hanks-level superstardom that his hotness deserved. His high points: He played Christina Applegate’s love interest in Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, starred in the critically acclaimed series Sports Night and had an arc on the HBO show In Treatment.
But he never quite “broke out” — until now. As defense attorney Will Gardner on the hit CBS legal drama The Good Wife, Josh might have the biggest role of his career. Will is an intriguing mess of contradictions: He plays dirty (by Chicago rules), isn’t afraid to take on clients with shady killer pasts and has one eye on married colleague Alicia Florick (Julianna Margulies). That said, Will is professional, cool under pressure and one of the “good guys” in a city full of bad ones.
The 38-year-old actor — who previously dated Sheryl Crow and Jennifer Connelly — lives in New York and dates a ballerina named Sophie Flack.
