Crushable has learned that Vampire Weekend is in talks to write songs for an upcoming Broadway adaptation of the classic college movie Animal House starring Jon Belushi.

Also in talks to write music for the show is Michigan band Tally Hall. It’s unclear whether both bands would be working on the final version together or if one will be chosen over the other.

Vampire Weekend released its second album, Contra, earlier this year. Tally Hall, known for wearing different colored ties during their performances, released their first album under Atlantic Records, Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum, in 2008 and have just completed their second album.

If they make it to Broadway, these bands will be in good company. Rockers like Duncan Sheik, who composed songs for Spring Awakening and Green Day, currently showing American Idiot, have recently made their marks on the Great White Way, as well.

Vampire Weekend’s management could not be reached for comment.

UPDATE: The band’s publicist told Crushable, “This is not true.”
