Poll: Salma Hayek Pinault Changed Her Name, Would You?

It’s a little late in the game for Salma Hayek to be taking on the surname of her husband, François-Henri Pinault, who she married twice last year. But she said the decision didn’t even occur to her until her two-year old daughter Valentina brought it up:

We were shooting a film, and she saw my chair with my name on it. She said, ‘What does it say there?’ And I said, ‘Salma Hayek.’ And she said, ‘What about Pinault? Why not Pinault?’ ”

And even though an easy answer to that question would be “Because mommy is much, much more famous than daddy,” Salma decided to follow the whims of her toddler and add his last name to her own (no hyphen). Which begs the decades-old question in feminism: Would you take on your hubby’s moniker?

I have always thought I would take my husbands name personally if not professionally. I had a boss that did that, and she wasn’t famous, just a lawyer, but I thought it made sense. But if my husband’s last name is better than mine, I’m totally taking it. And vice versa if his name is really bad/ugly/long/hard to pronounce.
