Life Unexpected “Turtle Undefeated,” Ep. 1.5 Original Air Date: Feb. 15, 2010
Lux (Brittany Robertson) held her first high school party on Monday’s episode of Life Unexpected “Turtle Undefeated,” which of course, turned into a disaster.
The “mean girls” at school are busy making fun of Lux’s background because she lied to them, but their plans for hosting a party fall through. That is good for Lux because she uses the opporunity to tell the football quarterback Jones (Austin Butler) she can use her dad’s loft as a place for the party. Lux figures this will get her back in with everyone at her new school.
One funny scene at the beginning has one of the “mean girls” demeaning Lux’s boyfriend Bug, saying he sexually harassed them, which of course he didn’t. Lux points out that the girl has the word “juicy” written on the bottom of her pants.
Meanwhile, Bug and Tasha (Lux’s BFF and fellow foster-care friend) tell Lux they have a surprise for her. Baze (Kristopher Paloha) agrees to let Lux host the party in his loft, which bothers Cate (Shiri Appleby) some because she is a little jealous of Lux’s relationship with Cate.
Cate even tries to help her pick out an outfit for the party, but Lux still goes with her first choice. When Bug and Tasha stop by to pick Lux up for her surprise trip, Lux tells them she is sick.
Baze is still trying to work magic to keep the bar making money, getting his friends to come up with marketing ideas, but Baze’s dad Mr. Bazile (Robin Thomas) isn’t convinced that “turtle races” will work. Plus, “Gramps,” is critical of how easily Baze accepts Lux’s party request without asking questions.
And it appears Mr. Bazile did have a reason for concern. Baze is engrossed in getting people to the bar that he hands Lux the key to the supplies cabinet, warning her verbally to stay away from the liquor.
Meanwhile, Cate takes her radio station BFF producer friend out for her birthday but they end up at Baze’s bar. Cate really wants to sneak up stairs and check on Lux, but Baze tells her it’s uncool. Cate goes up there anyway, embarrassing Lux by trying to be “cool.” To top things off, Bug and Tasha show up upset Lux wanted to hang with her new friends.
While outside, Baze sees one of the teens throw something breakable out his loft window, and he gets upset (can’t blame him!), then really gets upset when he sees a keg at the party, and freaks even more when he sees Cate not doing anything about it. Baze turns off the music and demands everyone leave. He tears into Lux for being irresponsible, putting his bar in jeopardy.
All the teens leave the party and the “mean girls” tell Jones “I told you so” basically, embarrassing Lux even more. Bug offers to move the party to his place, tricking Jones, jumping into the guy’s jeep with Lux, but leaving Jones on the sidewalk. I guess Bug was jealous of Jones and Lux together.
Baze and Cate run outside in time to see Bug and Lux pulling away with Jones threatening to report is jeep stolen. They beg him not to saying they will get everything straightened out, but Jones calls 911 anyway.
Baze and Cate catch up with Bug and Lux in the jeep about the same time the cops do and end up making matters worse –this time for themselves. Touching the cop to get his attention, both Baze and Cate end up arrested.
Now Bug is arrested for stealing a car and both Baze and Cate in lockup with no one answering the phone to post bail. Lux can’t reach Ryan or Baze’s friends, so she calls Baze’s dad, who amazingly comes to the rescue.
But before he gets there, Baze and Cate have a heart-to-heart about how Baze handled Lux’s party and how he yelled at her like his own dad did to him in the past.
When Mr. Bazile arrives, he gives Baze a hard time, but at least he bails them out. Cate gets a taste of how hard it was for Baze trying to please his dad for all the years.
When Mr. Bazile drops off Cate, Baze and Lux off at Baze’s place, Cate encourages Baze to try a different approach with his dad to give him a second chance. Baze asks him to come in for a beer and give them a chance to start overi now knowing it’s not so easy to be a parent, but Mr. Bazile leaves hastily saying it’s already late.
Ryan finally shows up at Baze’s place just in time to see Baze and Cate having a tender moment together. Ryan was asleep and didn’t get the message from Lux until late. Before Cate and Lux leave with Ryan, Lux apologizes to Baze for putting his bar in jeopardy.
Back at home, Cate plays it easy with Lux not wanting to be an overbearing mom. They seem to be getting along better since the police station fiasco. Cate does tell Lux that Bug will have a court date over the stolen car incident. Lux tells her Bug is really a good person, but Cate seems to have her doubts.
Mr. Bazile returns to the bar and takes Baze up on his second chance request, drinking a beer and enjoying “turtle races.”
