CBS Interviews Patricia Arquette and Jake Weber

20090803_ryn_o05_096.jpgPatricia Arquette and Jake Weber recently sat down with CBS to talk about season 6 of Medium, and the show’s new home. They briefly recap where we left off at the end of season 5, and talk very briefly about where we pick up at the beginning of season 6 (spoiler: it’s, uh, later). Jake and Patricia also talk extensively about Joe and Allison’s relationship, which for my money, is the best marriage on television.

My favorite part though, has to be when CBS asks if they’re happy being part of the Friday night lineup (which includes Ghost Whisperer at 8 and Numb3rs at 10). Both actors get subtle digs in to NBC. Patricia says, “It feels like the first time we’ve actually had programming that made sense for us.” Jake’s dig is a little less subtle: he simply says, “I’m definitely grateful that I have a job, I’m grateful that the show is coming back, and I’m grateful that it has found its original home.”

Loved watching the interview. Thanks for posting this.
I think Medium has such great writing, especially the family interaction in each episode. There is drama, mystery, humor, — Jake Weber and Patricia Arquette keep it “real”.

      This was a great interview.

I do wish they hadn’t put that music (if you can call it that) in the background.

Jake has a lovely accent. (And no, he doesn’t sound British to me!)

After watching this again, I started thinking about something that Jake Weber said in this about Patricia Arquette wanting to do an episode where Allison was completely wrong about what she saw, and the possible ramifications of that. Patricia Arquette said that Glenn Caron shot that idea down and said that even though people think they want to see that happen, they really don’t. But I disagree.

I think it would make an incredible storyline, and would open up infinite possibilities for where to go with the show, and what to do with Allison’s character. Imagine the repercussions if Allison had a dream that turned out to be completely, 100% wrong, and there were serious consequences. What would that do to Allison? Would she lose faith in herself? Would she start doubting every dream or vision she had? What about Devalos and Scanlon? Would they continue to believe her or would she have to regain their trust all over again? How would it affect their working relationship or their friendship?
I, for one, would love to see those things explored. Anybody else?

I agree with Dawn. That would make a great storyline if Allison was 100% wrong. It would keep Allison and everyone else on their toes. It would also keep it more real if Allison wasn’t always right, and it would keep the audience guessing.

I agree too. I would really like to see them explore that idea. I’m intrigued to see if the coma will affect her dreams in any way at all. Physically it obviously has done from the promo pics published and I’m glad that it doesn’t seem to be just a one episode thing.

I think now might be an interesting time to have a storyline where she is completely wrong, especially since Allison’s still adapting to other effects the coma has placed not only on herself, but her family too. It would be a double whammy if Allison was to lose faith in her crime-solving dream capacity as well.

I’m impatient to see if they answer all the unanswered questions I have with the planned time jump!

I also agree with the idea of Allison being wrong and everyone having to deal with the ramifications. It would keep the show realistic because I’m sure most psychics can’t be right all the time. It would be a great way to shake up season six.
