In ‘Cinnamon’s Wake‘, Lorelai and Rory each must decide what to do about their crushes. In Lorelai’s own words, “It’s like, to perm or not to perm?” Or at least, that’s how Lorelai tries to explain it to Sookie. Should Lorelai date the sexy, smart, funny, coffee-loving Max Medina? Or should she avoid seeing Rory’s teacher, Mr. Medina?
On the other hand, for Rory, it’s a matter of just overcoming her own shyness. Does she like Dean enough to actually talk to him? Or to let him ask her out, like he seems to want to do!
In the end, both Lorelai and Rory decide to “perm”, so to speak. When Dean confronts Rory to say that he thought she liked him, but must have been wrong, she runs to tell him that she is indeed interested. And for Lorelai? Well, when Max thought the wake for Cinnamon was fake, it’s clear Lorelai is upset that he wants to leave. So, she talks with Rory about liking Max and what that could mean for them – she plans to go for it.
What was the tipping point for both Gilmore girls? Was it, in both cases, the thought of missing their chance?
