In ‘Just Like Gwen and Gavin,’ we finally get back some of the Stars Hollow charm that made Gilmore Girls so amazing. It’s time for the Stars Hollow Winter Carnival, but Taylor isn’t there to set it up, so Kirk is appointed to run it. And Kirk, master of being an oddball himself, is asking Lorelai to do something tame for her booth…
However, Lorelai has her way, and her booth features Paul Anka as “the Amazing Doggy Swami,” the fortune telling dog. Swami is a Hindu honorific that means “he who knows and is master of himself”. It can also refer to “husband”, which is a little bit funny (or perhaps ironic) give Lorelai’s relationship with Luke. Do you think Lorelai was unconsciously making some reference there?
And, since you may not know this piece of trivia, the title of the episode refers to Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, who had a secret love child he also kept from Gwen. Just like Lorelai & Luke.
If anyone is interested in making up a list of all the Stars Hollow events and which episode they took place in, let me know! I’d be happy to build that out into a mega Stars Hollow events post, but could use the help!
