Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods

OMG, like MTV has went totally pink and platinum blonde for its new reality series.

Following the success of its “Legally Blonde The Musical” special, MTV is partnering with the Broadway show’s team for a new reality series “Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods,” which will premiere on June 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Beginning today, MTV.com will add to the fun by going platinum blonde with exclusive show content and extras. Viewers will be able to log onto LegallyBlonde.MTV.com to see cast profiles, photos, audition reels and performances; watch full episodes and the series trailer; and check-out deleted show scenes and episodic flipbooks exclusive to MTV.com.

The eight-episode series features actress Haylie Duff (“7th Heaven,” “Hairspray” on Broadway and “Napoleon Dynamite”) who will star in and executive produce the show alongside Reveille, (producers of shows such as “The Office, ”Ugly Betty” and “Nashville Star, among others) providing an insider’s look at what it takes to land the starring role in a Broadway musical.

Just as on other reality show competitions, 10 hopefuls will vie for the top spot: the opportunity to star on Broadway at the Palace Theatre in the leading role of Elle Woods in the “Legally Blonde The Musical,” which is based on MGM’s hit film “Legally Blonde.”

Each week fans will watch as the contestants face challenges ranging from learning dance routines and songs while living together in a New York City loft.

On hand to show the ladies what it takes to succeed will be the musical’s director and Tony Award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell; associate director Marc Bruni; associate choreographer Denis Jones; and cast members including Laura Bell Bundy the original, Tony Award-nominated Elle Woods of Broadway, Nikkki Snelson (the original Brook Wyndham), Orfeh (Paulette) and Richard H. Blake (Warner Huntington III).

Meanwhile, Duff will be on hand with theater vocal coach Seth Rudetsky to provide guidance as the contestants face critiques from a panel of expert judges filled with some of the theater industry’s most respected names.

Serving as judges for the series are casting director Bernard Telsey; “Legally Blonde The Musical’s” Tony Award-nominated book writer Heather Hach; and original Broadway cast member of “Legally Blonde The Musical,” Paul Canaan.

This team of judges and musical director Jerry Mitchell – not America – will decide who the next “Elle Woods” will be.

“Legally Blonde The Musical” premiered on MTV on October 13, 2007 as a behind-the-scenes special and reached over 12.5 million viewers during its premiere weekend. The special marked the first time a cable network aired a full-length musical in its entirety.

Based on the hit film, “Legally Blonde The Musical” follows sorority star Elle Woods, who doesn’t take “no” for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more “serious,” Elle hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to your self never goes out of style. Since opening on Broadway in April 2007, “Legally Blonde The Musical” has been nominated for seven Tony Awards®.
